Vinyl Siding Tips
- Vinyl siding is available in a large selection of profiles, grain patterns and colors. You can even get log siding and cedar shakes
- When Cleaning Your Siding, start at the bottom and work toward the top, then make a final downward pass to clean off any residue. When you go top to bottom, you send a torrent of a year's or more accumulated dirt, pollen, etc., running down onto those bottom boards which can cause unsightly stains
- Vinyl has a low melting point and is slow to burn. Keep grills a safe distance away from the siding, and be careful with patio torches and other sources of intense heat.
- The purpose of vinyl siding is to avoid painting. Vinyl siding can, however, be painted with any good-quality exterior latex paint. Painting vinyl can be a useful option if you want to prolong the life of a badly faded batch of vinyl, or if you've moved into a house whose color you just can't stand and you want to buy time while you consider other options. Vinyl should never be painted a dark, heat-absorbing color, or it will tend to warp and sag when exposed to strong sunlight. Stick to white, gray, pale yellow, or some other reflective hue
